DMLS EOS M270 Xtended

INITIAL is consolidating the metals department with the purchase of a new DMLS machine, offering thus new materials hence new possibilities. eos_turbine_wheel_inconel

On top of the first machine EOSint M270, INITIAL has acquired a brand new DMLS -Direct Metal Laser Sintering- machine.

Installed in April, this new EOSint M270 Xtended is now operational.

Equipped with an inert argon gas feature, it makes it possible to use the following materials:

- Aluminium
- Inconel
- Titanium

Reminder: how DMLS works:

The direct manufacture of metal parts is done using 3D files (STL format). In an enclosed chamber, each part is manufactured by the addition of layers, one at a time. A laser then micro-welds the metal powder beads to each other. Manufacturing supports connect the part to a steel plate which is used to hold it. The supports are then further machined to obtain the final part.

Since this process requires significant subsequent operations, Initial has purchased another high speed machining system plus a wire cutting machine. We have already strengthened our staff by taking on an extra technician dedicated to removing the build supports from the parts.

Materials already available on the M270 machine: bronze, stainless steel (2 types), maraging steel, cobalt chrom.
All material datasheets can be downloaded.
