3D Inspection

3D INSPECTION BY COMPARISON IS A MODERN AND EFFECTIVE MEANS TO ANALYZE AND VALIDATE MULTIPLE PARTS

By overlapping the CAD model from the 3D scan with the initial 3D file, an inspection report will be issued, validating uniformity of the parts.

YOUR NEEDS

These are the types of requests we receive frequently:

  • Prophylactic verification of parts’ production.
  • Remedial analysis for faulty or defective manufactured items.
  • Tooling phases are carried out faster by reducing the number of iterations needed thus optimising product development and processes.
  • Investigation into the behaviour of soft (foams, rubber etc.) or stressed (deformation analysis) materials.
  • Checking the thickness or the reinforcement of moulded products or those coming from a foundry or from a stamping process.

METHODOLOGY

Considering the quality and accuracy in the digitisation process that we can offer, 3D inspection is, in comparison, one of the most interesting applications that this technology offers.

Specific software ensures immediate understanding and provides an overview of the actual geometry of the measured object.

It is composed of 3 phases:

  • Digitizing or 3D scanning: results in a cloud of points.
  • 3D alignment or re-alignment: positioning of the cloud in the 3D file (theoretical CAD)
  • Comparison of theoretical model and digitized model: preparation of control report

This process also allows the actual parts to be compared with one another, such as, for example, an analysis of similar items produced by different tools.

Considering the specifics of this method, we can advise you on several inspection techniques:

  • Discrepancies from the theoretical
  • Part thickness
  • Deformation under load
  • Geometry of individual parts or assemblies.

OUR ASSETS

  • The inspection report, which we can provide, is an invaluable tool to allay any fears over defects in the future and guarantees the conformity or viability of your finished products.
  • We have certifications of conformity for our digitisation equipment ready for your inspection (VDI acceptance tests) as well as the annual reports on our calibration equipment.
  • An exhaustive control is performed on the entire part.
  • Simultaneous dimensional and geometry inspection.
  • Evidence of the type of defects related to the plastic injection process (burrs, shrinkage cracks, distortions, etc.) or to the techniques used in plastic deformation.
  • On-the-spot analysis of the inspection report that is easily understandable, even by those who are not experts.
  • 3D visualisation software, which makes it possible to create sections and dimensions as well as an accurate and comprehensive check on the discrepancies of the digitised geometry even later on.

DELIVERABLES

During the 3D inspection process, we stress-test several competitive components and supply you with the measurements and results we obtain.

File type: Inspection report

Formats: PDF 2D and GOM 3D.

Description: We produce two items for our customers when we carry out an inspection: a 2D report in the form of a PDF which is a collection of images with colour cartography of any discrepancies with a quotation and the geometric tolerances on demand. Secondly, we provide a 3D file with a freeware viewer to permit a precise and detailed inspection.

For: extremely easy to use and interpret, tailorable and especially efficient in working with complex geometries.

Against: poorly suited to prismatic shapes made by digitally controlled machining tools.
